Welcome to my brand new blog! Like millions of others, I have something to say that I think others (that is, you) will enjoy, benefit from or find provocative. I have lots of interests, so while this site is really about my wood turning, I'll be blogging about all kinds of things that happen in my life. From books to movies to music to world events to yes, wood, I'll put my thoughts down here and invite your comments.
Some posts will be long, some short. Some will be about my hobbies  - music, wood turning, and others. Some will just be random thoughts or events. Evolution will take place  - I'm looking forward to seeing where it takes me!

It's everywhere, in everything, either as itself for its beauty, strength, flexibility or other natural properties, or broken down for its constituent parts like fiber, resin, or sap. From construction materials to artworks, wood shows up in many unexpected and taken-for-granted places. Did you know that prior to high grade aluminum being readily available, the preferred material for aircraft construction was Sitka spruce? Did you know that paper is made from fir trees? Did you know that high end automobiles still require claro walnut burl (and other types) for their decorative accents?

Getting ready for the "Christmas Handmade Extravaganza at the WFCU Centre this weekend. Lots of projects on the go. Pens, bottle stoppers, bowls of all types. Its fun but intense right now. Wood dust everywhere. Thank goodness Kathy is not complaining! I have some nice items and some new pen kits - the music pen , a heavy, large roller ball, and the Sedona rollerball (convertible to a fountain pen) are nice for larger hands, and the sketch pencil is a cute mechanical pencil. Thanks to my friend Dan for letting me browse his scrap pile.  I'm finally getting this website up and running, and my Facebook page (fb.me/woodreturner). Check it out and let me know what you think. Suggestions and critiques are welcome.

I've been doing wood turning for 20+ years, focusing on, or at least being aware and preferring the use of recycled wood.
